Confederacy of Treaty No. 6 First Nations looks forward to inclusion as nation-building partner

November 28, 2025 (Treaty No. 6 Territory) — The Confederacy of Treaty No. 6 First Nations expects collaboration with the Government of Canada and the Government of Alberta to discuss future economic opportunities and the details of the Canada-Alberta Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between both governments yesterday.

We are disappointed the Confederacy of Treaty No. 6 First Nations was not included at the decision making table prior to or during the signing of the MOU, despite the importance both governments have placed on First Nations inclusion. We require a seat at any table where decisions are made that impact our People. Treaty No. 6 Nations are the only Rights Holders on this Land — there would be no Alberta without Treaty. It is unacceptable that we need to request this. There can be nothing for us, without us.

Despite this, we are looking forward to the opportunity to be included as part-owners in nation-building projects moving forward. This MOU is an opportunity for First Nations to be included in economic ventures that will provide long-lasting equity for our communities.

Our inclusion at the table will also ensure First Nations are enabled to protect our Lands, Waters and the environment.

To transform our economy, Canada must turn to First Nations as part of the economic solution. The Confederacy of Treaty No. 6 First Nations will help Canada grow. Together, we will drive and sustain economic development as partners and equals.
