March 11, 2025 (Treaty No. 6 Territory) — The Confederacy of Treaty No. 6 First Nations thanks outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his service and work to advance Reconciliation.
Thank you Prime Minister Trudeau for your accomplishments and leadership. During your tenure you accepted the final report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and declared Reconciliation to be a national priority; lifted all long term drinking water advisories in Alberta; invested in new schools, fire halls and other large infrastructure projects on Treaty No. 6 Nations; and made numerous settlements, including the historic compensation settlement for children in care.
Congratulations Mark Carney on winning the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada. The Confederacy of Treaty No. 6 First Nations looks forward to advancing Reconciliation alongside you. Building a meaningful, reciprocal nation-to-nation partnership remains our priority. We expect the Government of Canada to invest in mutually beneficial relationships by respecting the sovereignty of Treaty No. 6 First Nations.
We hope you will visit Treaty No. 6 Territory soon and meet with our Chiefs, so we can work together to protect our Treaty Rights, focus on partnerships and explore the many opportunities our People have to offer.
.
In partnership and friendship, aiy hiy,
Grand Chief Greg Desjarlais
